RISSINGTON Kart Club near Burford has been given permission by its landlords, Defence Estates, to run a full season of nine championship rounds in 2009.

Rissington has suffered three years of uncertainty as permission to use the track for the necessary 18 days a year was not granted.

A reduced schedule would have put a severe financial burden on the club and could have forced closure.

The club had to prove that it had been using the land consistently for karting over the previous 10 years, and eventually this was agreed.

Rissington Kart Club can now begin its season in March as planned and run through until November, with one round per month.

The racing is always on the first Sunday of the month with practice on the Saturday.

Club chairman Mick Chalmers said: “I am absolutely delighted for the club and the members about the news.

“The past three years have been very disappointing, but we finally won our battle with West Oxford District Council to achieve our Certificate of Lawful use and now with this news, it has given us the stability that we needed. We can now look forward to an exciting 2009.

“I believe we have one of the best tracks in the country and now we can look to making it an even more enjoyable experience for drivers and teams.”

Rissington Kart Club will have their own stand at the Kart Mania ’08 show, November 29-30, at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire. This show covers getting started to all the latest equipment.
